Demonstrate the primary safety action that must be performed prior to inserting the Fiber Optic Scope into a gas tank.
Ground yourself and your equipment by touching a metal object.
Avoid mixing clothing of different types.
Use a grounding cable.
Demonstrate and describe the operation of the fiber optic scope.
Place image bundle around neck.
Focus image using PIV card.
Remember neutral position when inserting and removing scope.
Remove the fiberscope from the case.
Remove protective cap from eyepiece
Place eye cup onto eyepiece.
Connect the AC to DC power supply, or insert a rechargeable battery.
Test the fiberscope for proper operation.
Adjust the eyepiece for proper focus.
Ground the operator and the equipment
Examine a fuel tank using the fiber optic scope.
Insert the fuel tank adaptor into the tank filler tube.
Move the control lever to the neutral position & ensure that the articulating section is straight.
Insert the image bundle through the tank adaptor & into the tank.
Manipulate the image bundle through the tank contents & the control lever to identify anomalies.
Return the control lever to the neutral position before removing the image bundle.
Describe the proper maintenance of the fiber optic scope.
- Clean eyepiece with 70% alcohol
- Clean image bundle with mild soap solution
- Disinfect the fiberscope with 3% hydrogen peroxide, if contaminated
