Fetal Heart Rate Assessment Flashcards
if there is a variable in the FHR what does this mean
cord compression
if there is early decelerations in FHR what does this mean (mirroring)
head compression
if there are accelerations in FHR what does this mean
this is okay we want accelerations
if there are late decelerations in FHR what does this mean
placental insufficiency
what is considered tachycardia in a FHR
greater than 160/min for 1 min or longer
what is considered bradycardia in a FHR
less than 110/min for 1 min or longer
baseline FHR of 110-160/min moderate variability baseline FHR accelerations: present or not early decels: present or not variable or late decels: not present
category 1
recurrent variable decelerations
recurrent late decelerations
bradycardia
category 3
what are non reassuring FHR patterns associated with fetal hypoxia
fetal bradycardia fetal tachycardia absence of FHR variability late decelerations variable decelerations
if there are accelerations in FHR pattern what should the nurse do
this is reassuring
no interventions required
*indicates reactive non stress test
if the FHR indicates bradycardia what should be done
4 turns
- turn pt to left side
- turn oxytocin off
- turn up oxygen
- turn up fluids
- give tocolytic med if prescribed to relax uterus
if the FHR indicates tachycardia what should be done
turn up oxygen and admin fluid bolus
if the is a decrease or loss of FHR variability what should the nurse do
stimulate fetal scalp
turn pt left lateral
*pt could be sleeping thats why there is no movement
if there are early decelerations of FHR what should the nurse do
no interventions are required
if there are late decelerations of FHR what should the nurse do
4 turns
- turn pt left side
- turn up fluids
- turn off oxytocin
- turn up oxygen
- prepare for assisted vaginal birth or caesarean births
