Fetal Heart monitoring Flashcards
Acceleration in Fetal Heart Rate
An increase in the fetal heart rate above baseline that is at least 15 beats above baseline for at least 15 seconds
“15 x 15”
Early Deceleration:
how does it relate to the contraction?
what does it indicate?
mirror image of contraction
Early deceleration indicates fetal head compression. May indicate cephalopelvic disproportion-
what is the treatment for cephalopelvic disproportion
the treatment for a head that is too big to fit through the pelvis is a c-section
Late Deceleration
when does it occur relating to the contraction?
what does it indicate?
Late deceleration occurs late during the contraction, almost at the peak
Late deceleration indicates a uteroplacental insufficiency
Treatment for late deceleration in fetal heart rate
Re-position mom to her left side
Hydration and oxygen
decrease pitocin to decrease the frequency of contractions
C-section if pattern persists
Variable deceleration
what do they look like and when do they occur?
what does it indicate?
V shaped and occurs anywhere in during the contraction
Variable decelerations indicate cord compression
