Fertilisers Flashcards
What are the most important minerals needed by plants?
Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium
What form do NPK need to be in?
Soluble form
Why do farmers need to add fertiliser to their field?
Harvesting crops removes essential nutrients. Adding fertiliser replaces the nutrients that have been lost in plant growth, it also increases crop yield as plants grow better
What are natural fertilisers?
Waste materials produced by living organisms
Give examples of Nat fertilisers (3)
Manure, plant waste like straw, guano
What are artificial fertilisers?
Chemicals which are produced in factories
What do art fert have?
Very specific combinations of different chemicals known as the N:P:K ratios
Why is the N:P:K ratio of art fert important?
They suit different crops/plants
