What happens during fetilisation?
During fetilisation, a male gamete and a female gamete fuse together to produce a single body cell
What is the name of that single body cell?
A zygote
What do gametes have?
Only half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell
What does the zygote produce?
One whole set of chromosomes
What is within each new pair of chromosomes?
One chromosome from the father
One chromosome from the mother
What does the zygote then divide by?
Mitosis
And what is produced?
A cluster of cells
What is the name of the cluster of cells?
An Embryo
What does the embryo continue to do?
Divide by mitosis, after which the cells have specialised, until birth as a fully developed baby
