Aspiration
Withdrawal of fluid from a cavity or sac. In a breast aspiration a needle is used to remove fluid from cyctic lesions in the breast
Colposcopy
Visual exam of the vagina and cervix with a colposcope which is a magnifying instrument
Conization
Removal of a cone shaped section of the cervix for biopsy
Hysterosalpingography
X-ray imaging the of the uterus and Fallopian tubes after injection of a contrast agent into the uterus
Mammography
X-ray imaging if the breast
Pap smear
Microscopic analysis of the secretions from the cervix done by scraping the mouth of the cervix with a wooden spatula and sending the smear for the presence of cervical or vaginal disease
Pelvic ultrasound
An image of sound waves is produced as the waves bounce off the organs such as ovaries and uterus
Pregnancy test
Measurement of HCG human chorionic gonadotropin in either blood or urine that indicates pregnancy
Tubal ligation
Both Fallopian tubes are tied off in two different places with sutures and the intervening segment is burned or removed to prevent pregnancy
Amniocentesis
Surgical puncture of the amniotic sac to withdraw fluid for chemical and chromosomal analysis
