define ovularian cycle
A
period of time between 2 successive ovulations

Describe follicular phase
A
it begins on day 1 of the cycle, corresponding to first day of menses:
* it occurs under the effect of increased levels of FSH more than LH
* At the beginning, granulosa cells have receptor for FSH only, and theca cells for LH
* At the end, accumulation of FSH induced cAMP in Granulosa cells —> have LH receptor as well
* LH then acts as surogate for FSH

Effects of FSH in ovulation
A
- Proliferation of granulosa cells
- Increase estrogen production from granulosa cells
- formation of follicular fliud
- Formation of theca cells, differentiate into —> glandular theca interna & fibrous theca externa
- Formation of Zona pellucida
- Increase gap junction between cells for transportation of nutreints
