aim
to investigate if the amygdala has a role in experiencing fear
procedure
to see if SM felt any fear, the researchers did three different tests which would make someone feel fear. These tests were a pet store, haunted house and showed her scary film clips. During these tests, SM did not show any fear. But still felt other emotions.
results
the researchers found that SM did not show any signs of fear during the tests, which might suggest that her genetic disorder, causing damage to the amygdala, could play a role in her experiencing fear.
conclusion
this study suggests that the amygdala might play and important role in experiences of fear in threatening situations. If we have damage to the amygdala, we might not be able to experience fear.
