Feedback Flashcards
What are the two types of feedback
Intrinsic and extrinsic
Explain what intrinsic feedback is?
Intrinsic feedback comes from within the performer.
Explain what extrinsic feedback is?
Extrinsic feedback comes from an external source
Identify 2 types of internal feedback
- Kinaesthetic
- Thoughts and feelings
Identify 3 types of external feedback
1.Verbal
2.Written
3.Video
Explain what Kinaesthetic feedback is
This is where a performer receives immediate feedback on why a skill did not feel right.
Explain what Verbal feedback is
Verbal feedback is being told about elements of your performance which are positive or need improvement
Identify what should be considered when delivering feedback , there are 5 in total.
1.Source
2.Timing
3.Order
4.Volume
5.Information
Explain why the source of feedback should be considered, before taking information on board.
The Source is who delivers the feedback, are they a knowledgable coach or player? This can determine how accurate or trustworthy the feedback is.
Explain why the timing of feedback should be considered, when delivering to a performer.
The timing is when the feedback is delivered. Is it immediately after performance ? Or a few days later? If it is later this effects on how much a performer understands based on what they can remember.
Explain how the Order of feedback could impact its effectiveness.
The Order is what comes first. Is it positive or negative. Depending what comes first this could impact the confidence and motivation of the performer.
Identify this type of feedback. A dancer can see they are out of time when watching their performance in slow motion.
Extrinsic - video
Identify this type of feedback. A right winger is continually told by their coach that they are coming inside too much restricting width for their team.
Extrinsic - verbal
Example answer. Describe how you received feedback in a physical PDP. (4 Marks)
I received verbal feedback when learning the drop shot in badminton during shadow practice. The feedback came from a knowledgable performer watching my drop shot. After 5 repetitions I would stop and get feedback on my drop shot, my observer told me what I did well and what I needed to improve on. In the next 5 repetitions I would concentrate on what I needed to improve on. I would repeat this 3 more times getting continual verbal feedback to help me improve.
