Elections Canada publishes the results of the election
the Governor General invites the party with the most seats won to form a government
The leader of the dominant party becomes prime minister

What does it mean for a government to lose confidence

A

When the current government proposes a major issue, if they do not receive a majority of votes (ie pass the motion) the party in power is said to have lost confidence and must ask the governor general to call an election.
