Clean Water Act
as amended in 1977, Federal water pollution control act law became Clean Water Act.
- Gave EPA the authority to implement pollution control programs.
- Continued requirements to set water quality standards for all contaminants in surface waters
- Made it unlawful for any person to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters, unless a permit was obtained under its provisions.
- Funded the construction of sewage treatment plants.
National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES)
controls water pollution by regulation point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States.
National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)
requires federal agencies to integrate environmental values into their decision making processes by considering the environmental impacts of their proposed actions and reasonable alternatives to those actions.
Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Act:
authorized NRCS to cooperate with states and local agencies to carry out:
- Works of Improvement for soil conservation
- Flood Prevention
- Conservation
- Development
- Utilization and disposal of water
