What is a febrile convulsion
Type of seizure which occurs in children with high fever
Age of febrile convulsions
6 months to 5 years
What is a simple febrile convulsion
Generalised tonic clonic seizure lasting less than 15 minutes and only occur once during febrile illness
What is a complex febrile convulsion
Consist of partial or focal seizure lasting longer than 15 minutes or occuring multiple times during same illness
Diagnosis of febrile convulsion
Rule out other neurological causes, fever from underlying bacterial or viral illness
Differentials of febrile convulsions
Epilepsy, meningitis, SOPs, syncopal episodes, electrolyte abnormalities, trauma
Management of febrile convulsion
Identify and manage underlying source of infection and control fever.
Simple analgesia such as paracetemol or ibuprofen.
Complex febrile convulsions need frurther investigations
