Simple:
Generalised tonic clonic
<15 mins lasting
No recurrence in 24hrs
Complex:
Partial seizure
>15 mins
Recurrence <24hrs

A
yes very common
3% of children will have at least 1 febrile convulsion

What should you communicate to parents after a febrile convulsion
A
Not dangerous
No long term complications (e.g epilepsy)
If future fever give paracetemol asap

Age 6m - 6yr Core temp >38.5 URTI/viral illness common trigger No evidence of CNS infection Generalised tonic clonic seizure lasting <5 mins
