what does degenerate mean

A

meaning more than one triplet codes for the same amino acid ,this reduces impact of mutations

Q

what does universal mean

A

some triplets of bases code for the same amino acid in all organisims, this means genetic engineering is possible

Q

what does non-overlapping mean

A

each base in a gene is only one part of one triplet of bases that codes for one amino acid, therefore each triplet is read as a descrite unit this is an advantage if a point muation occurs it will only affect one codon and therefore only one amino acid
