Features Of Adherence Flashcards
Bulpitts methodology?
Review article of research identifying problems with taking drugs for high blood pressure
Bulpitts aim?
To review research on adherence in hypersensitive patients
Bulpitts procedure?
Research was analysed to identify the psychical and psychology effects or drug treatment these included work, physical well being and hobbies etc
Bulpitts findings?
Anti-hypertension medication can have many side effects including sleepiness, dizziness and sexual functioning. In one study by curb et al, it was found 8% of makes discontinued due to sexual functioning.
Bulpitts conclusions?
When the costs of taking something (side effects) outweigh the benefits of taking a drug for an symptomatic problem, they won’t take them
Lustmans aim
To assess the efficacy of the anti depressant Fluoxetine in treating depression by measuring glycemic control
Lustmans methodology
Randomised controlled double-blind study
Lustmans sample
60 patients with type one or type two diabetes diagnosed with depression
Lustmans procedure
Patients were either given a placebo or their fluoxetine.
Then their depression was tested using psychometric tests and their adherence was tested by measuring their GHb levels showing their glycemic control
Lustmans findings
Patients given fluoxetine reported lower levels of depression, they also had lower levels of GHb which indicated they glycemic control
Watt et al aim
To see if a ‘funhaler’ could improve a child’s adherence to taking medication for asthma
Watt et al sample?
32 Australian children (10 boys and 22 girls) aged 1.5-6.
Watt et al method and design?
Field experiment and repeated measures and are in both conditions
Watt et al procedure
Used a breth-a-tech for week and then parents answered a question on it, then used the gunhaler for a week and the parents answered a questionnaire
Watt et al findings
38% parents where found to have medicated their children the following day after using the funhaler
