Feasibility Flashcards

1
Q

What is lean manufacturing?

A

the use of computer modelling and detailed planning to simulate every stage of manufacturing to limited delays, wastage space, and other factors which could slow or stop production wasting time and money

Q

What are buffer zones?

A

temporary storage of parts before bottlenecks in the manufacturing process to prevent overloading machinery or clogging the production line.

Q

What is Takt time and how is it calculated?

A

Takt time is a measure of the required production rate to meet the demand from the consumers.

Takt time = production time/ customer demand.

Q

Describe a Feasibility study.

A

an assessment of the practicality of a product by comparing costs, manufacturing difficulties, availability of labour and material, and the cost of design and development to see if a product could ever be profitable.

Q

How is feasibility determined with computer modelling?

A

assembly and disassembly of a product can be modelled in computers to see how complicated it is and the cost of the processes that can achieve this. the model can also incorporate the manufacturing capacity of the manufacturer to see if they can achieve it without heavy investments.

Q

How do prototypes describe feasibility?

A

scale models of final products can be made to show how effective specific parts are and how easy they are to access for manufacture and repair.
