Fear Of Communism. Flashcards
Why were the middle, upper classes and German businessmen scared?
As communist support grew, this worried the middle and upper classes and German businessmen. They were frightened of a Communist revolution as they would suffer. So they began to support the Nazis, giving them votes and money.
Why did people let Hitler do as he liked?
They were willing to let Hitler have what he wanted because he was not communist and so that Germany could act as a barrier against the Soviet Union.
Why was it a smart decision to manipulate fear?
We humans react to fear. It is an arousing emotion, causing agitation as opposed to calm. Arousing emotions motivate us to do or feel something - which is similar to the aim of propaganda. For humans, it doesn’t matter how real or awful the danger, so long as we believe that something can be done to prevent it, we will likely opt for that course than any other. In this case, the solution was the Nazi party.
Why were people so terrified of what happened in Russia?
If we survive a bad experience, we never forget how to avoid it in the future. Some of our oldest and most vivid memories are born in fear. It’s adrenaline that etches them into our brains. Nothing makes us more uncomfortable than fear. In this case, the Germans feared what happened in Russia, which was the Communist revolution there.
How else did Hitler use fear to limit freedom?
Fear is also how our governments get us to acquiesce to laws that take away our freedom. In Germany, this can relate to when Hitler wanted emergency power due to a Communist causing the Reichstag fire. It scared people into complying.
