FCCO APG Flashcards
Local Flying Area (LFA)
LFA boundary is defined as a 250 NM radius centered from Butts Army Airfield (BAAF)
Dimensions of the Range Corridors
Dimensions are from 50ft Above Highest Obstacle (AHO) to 500ft. Above Ground Level (AGL) with intermediate altitudes assigned for specific operations and is 200 meters wide (100 meters either side of centerline)
When is R-123 airspace further restricted?
When this range is active in an OCCUPIED or HOT status, the airspace is further restricted
What is R-123
Range 123 is a U.S. Air Force bombing and strafing range at the southwestern corner of R-2601
How does the Pilot in Command (PIC), Aircraft Commander (AC) or UAS Operator(s) involved in any incident/accident including forced landings, precautionary landings, or aborted takeoffs report the event and when?
As soon as possible by initiation of the pre-accident plan
How does the pilot initiate the pre accident plan if operating in BAAF, R-2601, or R-2603 airspace?
Contact the controlling agency immediately. If unable to contact the controlling agency, dial 911 and ask for the Fort Carson 911 Dispatcher
How do you initiate the Pre-Accident Plan if operating outside BAAF, R-2601, or R-2603 airspace?
The aircrew will contact nearest controlling agency, emergency services, unit flight operations, and chain of command as possible
In the event of a PL, who is responsible for the security of the aircraft?
The PIC
Weather Advisory Definition
A special notice provided to notify operational commanders and agencies when certain established forecasted or observed WX conditions could affect operations
Weather Watch Definition
A special notice to notify operational commanders and agencies of a potential for environmental conditions of such intensity as to pose a hazard to life or property
Weather Warning Definition
A special notice to notify operational commanders and agencies when an established WX condition of such intensity as to pose a hazard to life or property is occurring or is expected to occur at a specific location
Upon notification of severe WX aircrews operating within R-2601, PCMS, or BAAF will,..
…exit the warning area and continue mission if feasible. If unable to exit the warning area the aircrew will land to an airfield and secure the aircraft. If unable to land to an airfield, aircrew will conduct a WX PL and secure the aircraft.
NOTE: This does not include wind warnings that do not exceed aircraft limitations.
For what class of aviation accidents are aircrew members required to give samples of bodily fluids?
Class A, B, and C. For Class D accidents it will be at the BN/SQN Commander’s discretion. If the class of accident is in question, samples should be taken.
PC will ensure a DD-1801 is filed IAW what documents?
DOD FLIP GP, AR 95-1, and FCCO APG
If the flight plan is sent to base ops electronically, how soon should the PC call to confirm it’s receipt?
Within 5 minutes of submission
When BAAF Base Ops is closed, where do you file your flight plan?
A) For IFR or VFR cross country flights, flight plans should be filed with Denver Flight Services Station (FSS)
B) For local or test flights, flight plans may be filed with the unit flight operations
What happens if a flight plan is not activated with 1 hour of the proposed departure time? How about 2 hours?
After 1 hour, the PC will be contacted by BAAF Base Ops. After 2 hours the flight plan will be canceled and the PC must file a new flight plan
Once a flight plan has been filed, what changes will automatically terminate the flight plan? When is this not true?
Any change to PC will terminate the flight plan and a new flight plan must be filed. PC changes are allowable on filed flight plans provided it is a formation flight plan and it is not the lead PC, but they must be made prior to the flight plan being opened. If a wingman is unable to depart with the flight, a separate flight plan (and possibly RCOP) must be filed
What are the requirements to file a local flight plan?
The departure and termination point must be KFCS and the entirety of the flight must remain within the LFA
When must a daytime hazards recon flight be conducted?
If the date on the Wire/Obstruction Map exceeds 30 days, a daylight wire hazards reconnaissance must be performed prior to night flights below 500 ft. AGL off the reservation or at terrain flight altitudes on the reservation
What is considered a cross country flight?
Any flight which terminates at a location other than BAAF or extends outside the LFA is considered a cross country flight
What are the flight plan filing requirements for a cross-country flight?
A) A DD Form 1801 must be filed with BAAF Base Operations during hours of operations if departing from BAAF.
B) The flight plan should be filed a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the estimated time of departure for VFR flights and 1 hour prior to the estimated time of departure for IFR flights.
Are flights terminating at or departing from PCMS considered cross-country flights?
Yes
How should flight plans for flights terminating at PCMS be closed out?
Close flight plan via radio through Trinidad, Remote Communications Outlet (Denver FSS) or Carson Radio upon arrival at PCMS (R-2603)
How should flight plans for flight originating out of PCMS be opened?
With Denver FSS telephonically or with Trinidad RCO or Carson Radio immediately after take off
How are flight plans written, filed, and closed for FTXs?
A) Departure to FTX: for destination write the grid for the units TAA and the the ETE section will contain only the required time to fly to that TAA. Flight plans will be closed with Carson Radio or BAAF Tower or Denver FSS.
C) During FTX: for the duration of the FTX, aircrews will open and close their flight plans with their units flight operations and continue to flight follow with Carson Radio
D) Return from FTX: aircrews may open and close their flight plans with their flight operations or do so with Denver FSS telephonically or immediately after take off with Denver FSS or Carson Radio
For BAMBI or SAR operations, how should flight plans be filed?
Flight plans may filed as a standby flight plan or they may be filed telephonically with BAAF Base Operations. Upon returning from the flight, the pilots will provide a hard copy flight plan to base ops.
What are the map requirements?
All aircraft must have the current FC or PCMS aviation special map aboard the aircraft. The PC is responsible for ensure that the maps are updated with the current hazards on the BAAF Base Operations Hazards Map.
When is the Mission Execution Forecast (MEF) a sufficient WX briefing product and when is a 175-1 required?
For local flight plans may utilize the MEF and receive a telephonic weather briefing, all other flight plans require a 175-1 Flight Weather Briefing
Requests for flight weather briefings must be submitted no later than ____ hours prior to desired brief time. It is recommend to submit the _______________.
2 hours, the day prior.
The first call to Butts Tower or Carson Radio will include what standard for call signs?
The aircraft type and the full 5 digit tail number. Afterwards, the controlling agency may abbreviate the call sign to just the aircraft type and the last three digits of the tail number.
What suffix’s will be added when operating unaided, covert lighting, or blackout? How is your call sign changed for SAR?
Unaided: UHXXX “uniform”, Cover: UHXXX “India”, Blackout: UHXXX “Black-out”. For SAR operations the call sign will change to SAR XXX.
What are the lighting standards for operating in BAAF airspace under the following conditions: ground operations, traffic patterns, formation flights.
All aircraft will operate with overt lighting.
A) Ground operations: Position lights-On (Steady Bright or Flashing Bright), Anti-collision light(s)-On when rotors are turning.
B) Traffic Pattern: Position lights-On (Steady Bright), Anti-collision light(s)-On. Aircraft equipped with an additional bottom mounted anti-collision light may turn the lower anti-collision light off.
C) Formation flights: Position lights-On (Steady Bright for all aircraft), Anti-collision light(s)-On (trail aircraft).
What are the lighting requirements for operating in R-2601 or R-2603?
All aircraft will operate with overt lighting unless covert or black-out operations are requested and approved by Carson Radio.
A) Carson Radio will not mix overt, covert, or black-out lighting on corridors or ATAs
B) Aircraft will utilize the correct call sign suffix
C) Aircraft will use overt or covert lighting on corridors
D) Black out lighting is authorized within an ATA provided: there are no non-participating aircraft in the ATA, they resume overt or covert lighting when exiting the ATA, and the black-out operations ATA has been approved by Range Control and published in the NOTAMs
E) PCMS covert and black-out lighting is only authorized when the airspace has switched to restricted airspace
