What can happen to a person when they suffer from fatigue?
- their body, or parts of their body, may not be able to carry on with what they are doing due to local muscular fatigue
- concentration levels will decrease and they will be more likely to make mistakes
- skill levels decrease as speed and strength decrease
- if the person is unable to have some form of rest, they will be forced to stop
What can happen if a fatigued person carries on with what they are doing?
It can result in injury, as it is a dangerous condition to be in
Why can carrying on while being fatigued often result in injury?
This is because techniques will not be performed as well
Why are substitutions allowed in many major sports?
So that coaches and managers are able to replace players when they see signs of fatigue becoming apparent
What is stress?
Stress is the body’s reaction to a change that requires physical, mental or emotional adjustment or response
What can happen when a person becomes stressed in s sporting situation?
- excitement or suspense can lead to tension
- anxiety can make a person feel uneasy and apprehensive both before and during performance
- nervousness can add to a person’s tension levels
- motivation will almost certainly decrease
What effect can tension have on a person before taking part in an activity?
If this is experienced it can result in tightness in the muscles, which could then have a physical effect
What happens to a person’s performance if they become over anxious?
They will be more likely to make mistakes. However most performers consider some level of anxiety to be necessary to help them to focus and prepare
How can nervousness affect a players performance?
It can make them feel more tense and even agitated to the point where it can have a physical effect, such as shaking or feeling sick, on the individual
Which participants are likely to achieve less as performers?
Those who become bored easily or who find aspects of either practicing or performing tedious
