Family Life Flashcards
Conception
Conception refers to the fertilization of an egg by a sperm, resulting in the formation of a zygote, which marks the beginning of a new life.
Hormones
Hormones are chemical messengers that regulate various bodily functions and behaviors.
Hormones are released by the pituitary gland throughout the body.
Menopause
Menopause marks the end of menstruation and reproductive years in women, typically occurring in their late 30s to early 50s.
Mentsruation
Menstruation is a natural process in which the uterus sheds its lining monthly, involving blood flow and hormonal changes.
The lining of the uterus breaks down, and leaves through the vagina.
It takes a few days for the blood and other tissues from the lining to pass.
This happens because there has been no sexual intercourse or if the sperm doesn’t reach the fallopian tube.
Ovaries
Ovaries are the female reproductive organs responsible for producing eggs and hormones like estrogen.
Ovulation
Ovulation is the release of a mature egg from the ovary. This is a crucial phase in the menstrual cycle for fertility.
Reproductive system
The reproductive system purpose is to procreate.
The requires 2 sexes- male and female.
The purpose for the male is for the sperm cells to enter the woman’s body.
The purpose of the woman begins once the sperm fertilizes the ovum.
Embryo
The term used for when implantation has taken place.
The zygote implants itself to the wall of the uterus to become a embryo.
Membrane
The membrane is the cell wall of the ovum.
Zygote
The term used for a fertilized ovum.
The zygote slowly divides itself.
This happen right after conception.
As division happens, the DNA from the parents have joined together.
Chromosomes
Chromosomes are bundles of DNA strands.
Each cell has 46 chromosome in 23 pairs
Human reproductive system has only half of these pairs.
DNA
DNA is made up of 4 amino acids, and 2 twisted strands that are connected by shorter pieces.
The amino acids act as the building blocks of life.
Gene
In each chromosome, the DNA is grouped in genes.
Genes act as a master code for your physical traits.
They help build and maintain your body.
Nucleus
A rounded structure that acts as a command center for a cell.
What is the Christian view of sexuality?
The christian view of sexuality is men and woman are meant to respect and support each other, not to use each other in a casual sexual relationships. A sexually intimate relationship outside of marriage does not respect God’s gift of sex.
Sexuality is much more than reproductive system or body shape. What is it about?
It is about a persons, created by God as male or female. Respect for the gift of sexuality is part of respect and acceptance that each person deserves.
When does sexual attraction begin?
Sexual attraction begins at puberty and is natural.
What is the purpose of the cervical mucus?
The purpose of the cervical mucus is to protect and nourish the male sperm cell, and help them travel through the fallopian tube.
How does a woman’s body prepare for the beginning of new life?
First, a thick lining of blood cells builds up on the inside of the wall of the uterus. This lining will provide a place for life to grow. Secondly, as the ovum matures the cervix begins to produce cervical mucus. The purpose of the cervical mucus is to protect and nourish the male sperm cell, and help them travel through the fallopian tube.
Describe what happens in the 3 stages of labour?
First stage- Uterus contracts+relax repeatdely. Once contractions strong enough, opening at the bottom of the uterus enlarges. The amniotic sac breaks and fluid come out of the mother. The baby’s head pushes through.
Second stage- The baby moves into the birth canal. The mother must push out the baby.
Third stage- The baby’s head emerges and the doctor cleans fluid from the baby’s mouth. The umbilical cord is later cut, and the contractions of the uterus push out the placenta.
What is the role of the pituitary gland?
The role of the pituitary gland is to produce hormones and is located at the base of your brain.
