In the case of a homicide who takes the VIS and how long before sentencing should they be obtained.
Trained Victim support volunteers are trained to assist the police by taking VIS fro surviving family members. It must be available for sentencing and no older than 28 days at the time of sentencing
In the case or a homicide or serious crime involving Maori, an Iwi liaison should be engaged ASAP, what ways can they provide assistance to the investigation?
They will support an understanding and awareness of Maori traditions, protocol and beliefs and enhance relations between the investigation and family of the deceased and the Maori community.
What should a FLO do in relation to a victims cultural origin
Identify the cultural origin of the family and ensure they are familiar with the relevant cultural beliefs and protocols to enhance relations with the family and contribute to the victim profile
When implementing a FLO plan, the FLO should identify which family member to liaise with at an early stage, describe who the term family relates to?
Partners, parents, siblings, children, guardians, Whanau and any others that have had a direct and close relationship with the victim

Should reflect the victims culture and lifestyle

Assess the most appropriate methods of conducting interviews with family members, including specialist interviewers where appropriate
Information to be released to and withheld from the family
Request made by the family which have not been agreed to, and the reasons why
Complaints made by the family and OC Investigations action to resolve
Any family member who could be considered as a suspect
Liaise with Vic Support
Describe the primary function of a FLO
primary function is an investigator not a support person, however they must also facilitate and coordinate support that address the needs of the family.
