Why are there more one person households?

A
  1. The increase in separation divorce has created more than one person households, especially among men under 65 this is because falling divorced children are more likely to live with their mothers
  2. The decline in the numbers marrying and the trend towards people marrying later and that more people remaining single
  3. Stein argues that theres a growing number of people who are erupting for creative singlehood- the deliberate choice to live alone
  4. However more many choose to remain single never learn some alone because they’re too few partners available in their age group these are mainly older widows

What is living in apart together?

A

-duncan and Phillips found that one and 10 adults are living apart together. This is a significant relationship but they are not married or cohabiting.
-It has been suggested that this may reflect a trend towards less formal relationships pre-serving individualism
-Public attitudes towards them are favourable a major majority believe that couples do not need to live together to have a strong relationship
-It probably doesn’t amount to rejection of traditional relationships
