- ethnicity/damaging= mixing of cultures/religions may decrease traditional values, so some families don’t like to mix.
- media portrayal= media shows families as being nuclear, so people will think this is norm/should have this.

- only exists to an extent, as nuclear family is either always structure or end goal.
