Q

Discuss the concepts of family

A

Family functions occur in five major areas. Physically, the family provides a safe, comfortable environment necessary for growth, development, and rest or recuperation. Economically, the family provides financial aid to family members and also helps meet society’s needs. The reproductive function of many families is to have and raise children. The affective and coping functions of the family provide emotional comfort to family members and help members establish their identity and maintain it in times of stress. Lastly, through socialization, the family teaches; transmits beliefs, values, attitudes, and coping mechanisms, provides feedback, and guides problem-solving.

Q

Create a care plan: Readiness for enhanced family processes

A

A care plan for readiness for enhanced family processes consists of many components. First, let’s see what the family structure is. This is the stage of the family. Second, we want to see what the tasks are within the family. For example, a younger family may plan to have more children, whereas an older family may be discussing retirement. Third, we can assess risk factors that need to be reviewed. So, assess the lifestyle, psychosocial, environmental, developmental, and biologic risks. And fourth, we as nurses will need to make interventions/referrals based on the family’s specific needs.
