Living in a household with multiple generations.

One parent is remarried with children.

Living with somebody without getting married.

A decline of religion.

Women having the responsibility of a career and motherhood.

When women have to put their family before their jobs leading to less career progression.

Traditional families greatly favour men by treating women unfairly.

Roles and norms taught by parents to young children.
What are conjugal roles?
A job that is performed by a married person. (can be joint and segregated)
What does Murdock believe the three functions of the family are?
He believe the family should, socialise children, Reproduce, and provide.
What is are joint conjugal roles?
A job that is done by each partner’s equal amounts.
What are segregated conjugal roles?
Jobs that are done by one person in the relationship.
Why is the death rate decreasing?
Nowadays we have fewer infectious diseases and more advanced medical treatment

They believe they are useless to society and should be a burden for the younger generation.

The person in the family who earns the most money, Usually the male.
What is the domestic division of labour?
The division of tasks such
as housework and childcare in the family.
What is the double shift?
When women are in full time employment and responsible for household tasks.
What is an expressive role?
- Traditionally a woman’s role in the family according to Parsons, where they look after the emotional needs of the family.
What is an instrumental role?
Traditionally the male’s role within the family to be the breadwinner and provide financially for the family.
