Claiming something is true that isn’t necessarily true
Logical fallacy
Selected use of evidence
SUE
When you present information as if it is true only because an authority believes it is so
Appeal to authority
Associating who makes the argument with whether or not you believe the argument is true
Ad hominem
Presents the other person’s argument so it appears to be weak and false
Straw man
When you throw something out in the argument just to get the other person off track or get them fired
Red herring
A fallacy passed down from gen. to gen.
Criticizing the arguments origin
Genetic fallacy
To assume something and then ask a question about it S if it were true
Begin the question
What is the evidence for your evidence? Why why?
Circular reasoning
Changing the words of a definition or twisting the way things are described
Shifty definitions
Generalizing people and arguments (sweep over)
Hasty generalization
A word loaded with emotion, to get the other person to stop thinking logically and just focus on the emotions they feel with it
