A
<3rd percentile eight for age or reducing weight by more than 2 percentile lines

What is the percentile chart?
A
serial growth measures plotted on appropriate growth charts for monitoring child’s growth

How can FTT be categorised?
A
- a problem of energy input versus output
- organic or non-organic

What to ask on history if recognise failure to thrive?
A
- food/fluid intake, introduction of new foods
- output: vomiting, bowel actions
- developmental concerns
- past medical problems
- psychosocial history
- systems review
- family history e.g coelic disease

What are the causes of FTT?
A
Input/output
- inadequate intake
- increased requirement (organic disease)
- inadequate utilisation (malabsorption)
- increased losses (diarrhoea, vomiting)
Nonorganic
- normal variant
- psychosocial factors
Organic
- GIT - reflux, malabsorption, diarrhoea, coeliacs
- chronic infection - UTI
- allergy - eczzema, enteropathy
- respiratory disease
- endocrine causes
