FAI + Secondary Degeneration Flashcards
What are the symptoms of FAI
- Hip/Groin pain induced during flexion, adduction + int rot
- Limited ROM
what are the 3 subtypes of FAI and m/c
CAM- femoral head too big
Pincer- Acetabulum too deep
Mixed- CAM+ PIncer (m.c)
What is the typical presentation of a CAM and what view can it be seen in
- Dysplastic/osseous overgrowth at the head/neck junction of the femur (anterolat)
- M/c in males
- Frog leg view helpful
What are the etiologies of CAM FAI (6)
- Idiopathic
- Coxa vara (femoral angle less than 120)
- Adaptive remodelling
- LCP in childhood
- Slipped capital femoral epiphysis
- malunited femoral neck fx
What is the typical imaging choice for FAI and gold standard
radiograph initial
axial MRI- gold standard
MRI w arthrogram to assess degree of damage in jt
tx of CAM impingement
- Surgical
- no conservative have been shown to successfully tx labral tears and degen secondary to FAI
Pincer FAI etiology (4)
- Ideopathic
- Retroverted acetabulum (Cross over sign**)
- coxa profunda (deep socket)
- Protrusio acetabuli
What is the cross over sign
Anterior acetabular rim projects lateral to post rim
What are FAI complications(4)
- Labral degen and ossification
- Labral tear
- Cartilage damage
- Eventual hip degen
What gender is CAM and pincer mc in
CAM- male
pincer- female
