FAD & NAD Flashcards
1
Q
Intro
A
FAD and NAD are coenzymes that plays a critical role in aerobic respiration
2
Q
What they do
A
- They accept H(e and p) released i different stages of respiration
- They transfer these to the electron transport chain in the inner membrane ( site of oxidative phosphorylation) , the site where H are released from coenzymes
3
Q
overview of steps
A
H^+ and e- are important in the electron transport chain as they play a role in the synthesis of ATP
- E is released to electron transport chain
- H + is release when e is lost
- electron transport chain drives proton to move up the concentration gradient from inner membrane to inter-membrane
- This establish a proton gradient. Proton moves down the concentration gradient by facilitated diffusion from inter-membrane to matrix, this releases the energy needed to drive ATP synthase to synthesis ATP
