Factors That Chabge Allele Frequency Flashcards
1
Q
Natural selection
A
Envirpbment increases the frequency of alleles that provide a reproductive advantage to individuals. Leads to evolution of adaptations. Different selection pressures can affect the relative fitness of phenotypes in a population
2
Q
Sexual selection
A
Favours the selection of any trait that influences the mating success of the individual, eg peacock feathers. Often traits that help in sexual selection come at a cost to the organism, eg difficulty escaping predators
3
Q
Artificial selection
A
Intentional breeding for certain traits, or combination of traits (done by humans) example domesticated dog breeds, or corn
