Q

Describe the fieldwork and research you carried out to investigate factors affecting population growth? (secondary information)`

A
  • www.birdforum.net: This indicated to me that rare birds are located in the area such as the Dartford Warbler, which would attract bird enthusiasts and photographers to the area due to its high biodiversity, making it a factor for population growth.
  • BBC article ‘Wytch Farm oil production extended in Dorset’- This indicated to me how many people were employed in at the Oil farm in September 2013, furthermore the projected increase in how many jobs would be secured in October 2031. This is another factor for population growth as the increase in industry will create employment, attracting more economic internal/external migration to the area increasing the population.
  • OS maps/ OL 15:This showed the me the land use and facilities around the area of Studland Bay, which helped me to become accustomed to tourist amenities such as hotels and yachts located around the bay, as the coast would be accessible for yachts and amenities would encourage tourism increasing the population growth in the area.
  • I also looked at old images from Google images coinciding with census information (www.ons.gov.uk) on Studland and cross examined the industry of the coast in the early 20th century to recent images, and then compared the images to the census data to see how these figures increased as a result of the development in industry from the 20th century to now.
