Why do people buy organic food?
They do not want to see use of chemicals on the food they eat and want to be sure animals haven been reared without the use of hormone
treatments.
What might make someone choose local ingredients?
Concerns over the impact of carbon emissions on the environment when using ingredients which have travelled a long way.
Why are people concerned about genetically modified foods?
GM food have a gene changes in them, to change a characteristic. This could be colour, flavour, drought or pest resistance . Some people are against this as we don’t fully understand the long term implications
of this.
How do different egg production systems affect the welfare of chickens?
Caged birds live a short life in very small cages and can’t go outside.
Free Range birds live in a large barn with access to the outdoors and can grub up their own food.
What is sustainable fishing?
Fishing in permitted areas of the sea and not taking more fish than you are allowed with your quota. This leaves plenty of fish stock in the sea for the future.
