Facilities and Physical Security Flashcards
What is an embedded system?
Computer system that is designed to perform a specific function
What is a PLC?
Programmable Logic Controller - computer that can automate and monitor mechanical systems.
What is OT?
Operational Technology - network designed to implement an industrial control system rather than data networking
What is ICS?
Industrial Control System - network that manages embedded devices in an industrial environment
What is RTOS?
Real Time Operating System - Type of OS that prioritizes execution of operations to ensure consistent response for time-critical tasks.
Examples include: autopilot systems, valve control mechanisms in a nuclear plant etc
What is SoC?
System on a Chip - processor that integrates the platform functionality of multiple PLC’s (programmable logic controllers) on a single chip
What is FPGA?
Filed Programmable Gate Array - processor that can be programmed to perform a specific function by a customer rather than at the time of manufacture
What is a data historian?
Software that aggregates and catalogs data from multiple sources within an ICS (Industrial Control System)
What is SCADA?
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition - Type of ICS that mages large scale multi site devices and equipment spread over a region
Difference between ICS and SCADA?
ICS = one facility/plant
SCADA = multiple facilities/plants
What is modbus?
Communications protocol for OT networks
What is BAS?
Building Automation System
A type of contactless smart card that can be read at a close range from a reader device is commonly referred to as:
Proximity card
