Facilitated Diffusion Flashcards
What type of process is it?
Passive process- doesn’t use energy
How do larger molecules move into or out of the cell?
By carrier proteins down their concentration gradient
Different carrier proteins facilitate the diffusion of different molecules
What is the Carrier protein process?
Large molecule attaches to a carrier protein in the membrane
Protein changes shape
This releases the molecule on the opposite side of the membrane
What do channel proteins Do?
Form pores in the membrane for charged particles to diffuse through
Different channel proteins facilitate the diffusion of different charged particles
What is it?
Larger molecules, ions and polar molecules diffuse through carrier proteins or channel proteins in the cell membrane
Moves down a concentration gradient from a higher to a lower concentration
