Anthropomorphism:
(mis-)attribution of human-like mental experiences in other animals
Anthropodenial: apriori denial that other animals can have human-like mental states or experiences
What is the difference between analogical and homological traits?
Analogy:
similar traits that evolve independently in response to similar pressures
Homology:
similar traits in different species due to common ancestry
What can thermal imaging tell us about emotions?
a decrease in nose temperature is often linked to stress or fear as it reflects an activation of the sympathetic nervous system
What indicates a social use of facial expressions?
longer duration of facial expression display in social context
intensification of facial expression when interacting with younger (orangutan) / older (chimpanzees) individuals indicating flexible use
