Maxillary nerve and superior labial branch of the supraorbital nerve.

Mental nerve.
Which muscle forms the main part of the cheek?
Buccinator
What nerve supplies the cheek?
Motor innervation- Facial nerve.
Sensory innervation- buccal branches of the mandibular nerve.
What muscle makes up the floor of the mouth?
Mylohyoid muscle.
Where does the mylohyoid line attach?
Mylohoid line of the mandible and the hyoid bone.
Why can infection spread into the submandibular space below the mylohyoid?
The mylohyoid muscle has a posterior free margin.
What are the 4 muscles of the tongue?
Genioglossus, palatoglossus, styloglossus, hyoglossus.
What muscles attach to the genial tubercles?
Genohyoid and genioglossus.
What type of secretions come from the parotid gland?
Serous.
Where does the parotid gland enter the oral cavity?
Passes horizontally over the master muscle, pierces the buccinator muscle and enters the oral cavity adjacent to the upper 7’s.
Why is the parotid gland particular painful if inflamed?
Covered by the parotid sheath.
What structures are closest related to the parotid gland?
Retromandibular vein
External carotid artery
Parotid lymph nodes
Facial nerve
What are the branches of the facial nerve?
Temporal
Zygomatic
Buccal
Marginal mandibular
Cervical
What parts of the face are paralysed in Bell’s palsy?
Unilateral upper and lower paralysis of the face.
