FA Term NOTES Flashcards
What is a T-tap?
A device used to tap into an existing wire.
Closing the T-tap makes a connection to the wire that can be accessed using____________________
a male .push on terminal
What is a push on terminal ?
Push-on terminals are quick connect wire terminals that come in sizes ranging from a standard 1/4 inch width down to as small as a 0.110 inch width.
What are Electrical knockouts ?
openings in electrical boxes that allow for wiring and connections for outlets, light fixtures, or additional wiring.
What is a waterflow switch ?
A water flow detector, also known as a flow switch, is an electro-mechanical device designed to send a signal to a local alarm or monitored panel and/or fire department when a continuous flow of water occurs through a fire sprinkler system’s piping. This flow signifies an activated sprinkler head or a leak in the system.
What is a tamper switch ?
A tamper switch is a mechanical and electrical device connected to a fire protection valve that signals a warning if the valve partially or fully closes. Regardless of the type of switch, they all function similarly. These devices feature an actuating unit, usually a lever or cable with a resting position
What is a damper control ?
The process of opening and/or closing heating and ventilating hardware (dampers), to isolate and exhaust smoke and to pressurize areas surrounding a fire
Data Gathering Panel (DGP)
Data gathering panels which are also widely known as DGPs are useful in generating and expanding the number of alarm inputs within a system. This panel also enables the relays and inputs to be linked at a remote location with a master panel. DGPs directly communicate with reply messages and polls and also send alerts to the master panel for further processing.
Digital Alarm Communicator System (DACS)
A system that transmits signals from a digital alarm communicator transmitter (DACT) located on protected premises through
the public switched telephone network to a digital alarm communicator receiver
(DACR) at a monitoring location.
Duct Smoke Detector
A device that senses the visible and/or invisible products of combustion in an HVAC system.
End-Of Line Device (EOL)
An electronic component physically installed as the furthest
device from the control panel; whose presence on the circuit is used to monitor the
integrity of the circuit.
Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP)
An electronic unit that monitors fire detection devices
and activates appropriate alarm notification appliances and other auxiliary appliances
according to programmed instructions.
Heat Detector, R-O-R Fixed Temperature
A heat sensitive switch that activates when
the temperature of its operating element reaches a predetermined level or the rate of
temperate rise (ROR) exceeds a preset limit
Heat Detector, Fixed Temperature:
A heat sensitive switch that activates when the temperature of its operating element reaches a predetermined level.
Heat Detector, Line
A linear heat activated switch that is sensitive along its path (as
opposed to a spot detector), and activates when the temperature along its operating
element reaches a predetermined level.
