(f) Respiration (TBC) Flashcards
What is the purpose of respiration?
To produce energy in the form of ATP from large sugar molecules like sugar.
When does repiration take place?
When there is an enough amount of oxygen.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration? What relationship does it have with the one of Photosynthesis?
Glucose + Oxygen -> Carbon Dioxide + water
What is the symbol equation for aerobic respiration?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 -> 6CO2 + 6HO (+Oxygen); It is the exact reverse of the equation for photosynthesis
WHat does ATP provide the cells with?
It provides the cells with Energy.
What is the difference between Aerobic and Anaerobic respiration?
Oxygen: Aerobic requires while anaerobic does not;
Glucose breakdown: Aerobic: complete, Anaerobic: Incomplete;
Produtcs: Aerobic: carbon dioxide & water, Anaerobic: animal cells produce lactic acid, plant cell and yeast: carbon dioxide & ethanol
When does Anaerobic respiration take place?
When there is no oxygen available
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration happen in animal cells?
Glucose -> lactic acid
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration happen in plant cells and yeast?
Glucose -> Ethanol + Carbon Dioxide
