F-5 Emergencies Flashcards
In-flight Alignment
1) NAV/DISPLAY PWR-OFF
2) NAV/DISPLAY PWR-ON
3) Maintain straight and level flight until attitude flag disappears
4) Menu page - Select
5) Mode page - Select
6) IFA - Select
* Reliable heading and attitude could be available in as little as 30 seconds with an “ATT/HDG Available” message on CDU. A “NAV READY Degraded” status may take 4 minutes.
Smoke, Fumes, or Odor in Cockpit
1) Oxygen - 100%
2) Check for fire
3) Descend to 25K’ or below
4) Green Ring - pull
5) Cockpit Pressure - RAM DUMP
6) Cockpit Pressure - DEFOG ONLY (When smoke clears)
7) If smoke is severe - Jettison canopy below 300 KIAS if practical
During a single engine takeoff, aft stick should be applied ___ KIAS prior to single engine takeoff speed. However, if available runway permits, increase airspeed as much as possible before attempting takeoff.
5 KIAS
During a single engine takeoff, do not raise landing gear until at least ___ KIAS above single engine takeoff speed but no later than ___ KIAS. Raising the gear too soon may result in ______.
10 KIAS
210 KIAS
…settling on the runway.
Nosewheel Shimmy on takeoff:
If noswheel shimmy dampener fails, oscillations in nosewheel deflection are induced. These appear as a snaking motion and can result in catastrophic nosewheel failure at speeds as __. If this situation exists, abort. If possible, dehike nose gear and use back stick to reduce forces on nose gear.
30 KIAS
Min single engine safe flying speed with gear and flaps up is ___ KIAS (N) and ____ KIAS (F). Add __ KIAS for each degree C above standar ambient temps. Single engine maximum thrust provides a min rate of climb of ___ FPM.
190 KIAS (N)
200 KIAS (F)
1 KT
300 FPM
Electrical Failure
- Battery and generator switches - OFF
- At altitudes above 25,000’, engines may flame out - All electrical equipment - OFF.
- Battery and generator switches - On as required.
- Land as soon as practicable.
SMOKE, FUMES, OR ODOR IN THE COCKPIT
- Oxygen - 100%
- Check for fire
- Descend to 25,000 or below.
- Oxygen emergency lever - Emergency.
- Cockpit pressurization - RAM DUMP.
- Cockpit pressurization switch - DEFOG ONLY after smoke clears.
- If smoke is severe - Jettison canopy below 300KIAS.
Oil pressure exceeds limits or a sudden change in pressure of 10 psi or more occurs:
- Throttle - Reduce to maintain pressure within limits
- Throttle - Off if 5 psi min pressure cannot be maintained at idle RPM or if engine seizure appears imminent.
* If the remaining engine requires shutdown, the engine previously shutdown for oil pressure may be restarted.
Failure of engine RPM indication and loss of oil pressure on the same engine may be an indication of a _____________. Consideration should be given to shutdown of the affected engine.
Sheared oil pump shaft
COMPRESSOR STALL
- Throttle - Retard until engine recovers
- Increase airspeed and advance throttle slowly.
If engine does not recover: - Throttle - OFF.
*Rapidly retarding the throttle to IDLE and immediately pushing the engine start button may permit the engine to recover and prevent complete flameout.
Overspeed or Overtemp
If engine RPM exceeds ___% or EGT exceeds ___ C during stabilized engine operation:
103% / 675 Deg C
1. Throttle - Retard until indication is within limits.
LOSS OF CABIN PRESSURE / HYPOXIC SYMPTOMS
- Oxygen diluter lever - 100%
- Emergency Oxygen Lever - EMERGENCY as required
- Descend below 10K’
- Oxygen diluter lever - 100%
LOSS OF CANOPY
- Slow aircraft to below 300 KIAS
* wind blast may cause circuit breakers behind seat to pop
ELECTRICAL FAILURE
- Throttles - Retard if above 25K’
- Altitude - 25K’ or below
- Electrical loads - Reduce
- Battery switch - BATT (check)
- Generator switch(es) - RESET, then on. Hold momentarily at RESET before placing on.
- Crossfeed - As required
- Circuit Breakers - Check
- Land ASAP.
