Eyelids Flashcards
Eyebrow
thick skin covered by characteristic sort, prominent hairs extending across the superior orbital margin
Frontalis
Main elevator of eyebrows and forehead
Raise eyebrow for look of surprise
Currugator
Medial depressor of eyebrow
moves brow medially
Procerus
Medial depressor of eyebrow
pulls medial portion of brow inferior
Orbicularis Oculi
primary lateral depressor of eyebrow
closes eyelid
Palpebrae
"eyelids" function (1) covers globe for protection, (2) moves the tears towards drainage, (3) spread tear film over the anterior surface of the eye on opening, (4) contain glands that produce the tear film
Palpebral fissure
Area between the open eyelids
Superior palpebral crease
crease above eye when eyelids closed
think eye shadow
Inferior palpebral crease
lines the bottom of the eye orbit, indicates the extension of the conjuctiva
Malar crease
on outer cheek below eye.
think malar rash/butterfly rash
nasojugal crease
medial line below the inferior palpebral crease
think dark circle around eye
lateral canthus
lies directly on the globe, where the upper and lower eyelid meet at the corners of the palpebral fissure
medial canthus
medial orbital marginal, but separated from the globe by a reservoir for the pooling of tears
lacrimal lake
pooling of tears near the medial canthus
plica semilunaris
the floor of the lacrimal lake
narrow, crescent-shaped fold of conjunctiva
allows lateral movement of the eye
