Eye quiz Flashcards
Protect the eye; allows light to pass through the interior of the eye; also refracts (bends) light
Cornea
Focuses image on retina
Lens
Control size of pupil opening
Iris
Allow light to pass to lens then to retina
Pupil
In between cornea and lens, provides nutrients, maintains shape of eye, bends light
Aqueous humor
Collect light rays, form image
Retina
Responsible for fine/acute focus/vision
Fovea centralis
Where optic nerve comes into contact with retina
Blind spot
Supplies oxygen, nutrients and fluids to various parts of eye; also prevents light from bouncing around inside eye
Choroid layer
Protect eye, maintain shape by holding fluids in
Sclera
Connects with blind spot, sends info from retina to the brain
Optic nerve
Light/dark sensitive receptors -works best when dim
Rods
Colour sensitive receptors
Cones
Jeeps eyeball full (shape) provides nutrients (jelly like fluid)
Vitreous humor
Relaxed= lens long & skinny
Contracts=short & fat
Ciliary muscle
caused by an uneven curvature of the cornea lens. Causes light rays to be distorted, causes some objects to be focused & others unfocused
Astigmatism
Growths & distortions of the lens leading to distorted cloudy vision. Cured by removal & replaced with a plastic lens
Cataracts
defects in the cones
Colour blindness
can result from trauma to eye or brain.
Blindness
build up of aqueous humor-increases pressure- causes blood vessels to collapse-no oxygen to cells-death of cells
glaucoma
caused by eyeball losing round shape and becoming more oblong. Light rays converge before they reach retina.(myopia)
Nearsightedness
caused by eyeball becoming more flattened than round. Light rays converge after retina.(hyperopia)
Farsightedness
