Eye Ducts/ Glands/ Bones Flashcards
Lacrimal Duct
Drainage system for tears. Tears are produced by lacrimal gland and drain through the lacrimal duct to reach the surface of the eye.
Lacrimal Gland
Gland that supplies most of the tears to the eye. It is located above (superior) and temporal to the eye and behind the orbital rim.
Nasolacrimal Duct
Drainage system for tears to leave the eye. It is connected to the nasal passage. Why the nose runs when one cries.
How Many Orbital Bones Are There?
Seven
What Are The Orbital Bones
1.) Maxilla
2.)Lacrimal
3.) Frontal
4.) Palatine
5.) Zygomatic
6.) Sphenoid
7.) Ethmoid
Meibomian Gland
Oil glands along the rims of the eyelid that produce an oily substance which prevents evaporation of the eye’s tear film. Also prevents tears from spilling onto the cheeks.
What are the three layers of tear film?
1.) Mucin- Sticks tears to cornea.
2.) Aqueous- Hydrates and nourishes cornea.
