Q

Sclera function:

A
  • It’s toughness protects the delicate optic/neural structures such as the retina
  • maintains shape of the globe so that retinal image is undisturbed
  • provides attachment for extraocular muscles to rotate the globe and the ciliary muscle to accommodate the lens

Q

Cornea function:

A

-strong connective tissue that covers anterior 1/6 surface of eye
Focusing element of the eye (more powerful than lens). Light enters the cornea and enters the aqueous humor before reaching retina

Q

Lens

A

a specialized epithelial tissue that fine tunes image projected on retina. It is transparent and has a high refractive power that focuses on nearer objects

16
Q

site where blood vessels supplying the inner retina enter the eye

A

optic disk

17
Q

wihitish circuclar area where retinal axons leave the eye and travel through the optic nerve to targets in the midbrain and thalamus

A

optic disk

18
Q

Two vascular systems that supply the eye

A
  1. Anterior _ (iris and ciliary body)- anterior ciliary areteris and long posterior ciliary arteries = origin, penetrates sclera
  2. Retinal Systems- inner retinal and choroidal (supplying outer retina from the ophthalmic artery)
19
Q

choroid ciliary body and iris make up the

A

uveal tract

20
Q

80% of light bending refractive power lies in this part of eye and is used for focusing distant images

A

Cornea

A

surface of retina and vasculature of inner retina

22

200 micron thin neural tissue that lines back of eye

A

retina

Q

window to the brain tha tis part of CNS

A

RETINA
