Define assimilation.
Assimilation: The process of fitting objects and experiences into our schemas
Define accommodation.
Accommodation: The adjustment of our schema to include new objects and events
What is parallel play?
Parallel play is when a child plays along side of other children but doesn’t share of cooperate with them.
What is the grasping reflex?
An infant’s clinging response to a touch on the palm of his or her hand
What is the rooting reflex?
Infant’s response in turning toward the source of touching that occurs anywhere around his or her mouth
What is maturation?
Internally programmed growth of a child.
Define empathy.
Empathy is the ability to put yourself in ones shoes. Imagine or picture what another is going through, or see something from a different person’s point of view.
What is associative play?
The stage in which children play at the same thing (such as on a jungle gym or in a sand box) but do not interact with each other.
What is cooperative play?
The stage in which children discuss plans and assign roles.
What is group/organized play?
Group play is the stage in which elaborate games with rules are played and children enter the world of organized sports.
What is telegraphic speech?
Telegraphic Speech - Words and phrases are not correct, but the meaning is understood.
Define conservation.
Conservation is the principle that a given quantity does not change when it’s appearance is changed.
What is amygdala?
Where the source of your emotions come from, in your brain.
