Extinction Flashcards
Behaviors maintained by negative reinforcement are not followed by termination of the aversive stimulus; emitting the target behavior does not enable escape from aversive stimulation
Escape Extinction
The discontinuing of a previously reinforced behavior; primary effect is a decrease in the target behavior
Extinction
An increase in the frequency of responding when an extinction procedure is initially implemented
Extinction Burst
Phenomenon in which diverse and novel forms of behavior are sometimes observed during the extinction process
Extinction Induced Variability
The relative frequency with which operant behavior is emitted during extinction
Resistance to Extinction
Reoccurrence of a previously reinforced behavior when reinforcement for an alternative behavior is terminated or decreased. (A) target behavior reinforced, (B) alt response reinforced, (C) neither behavior reinforced
Resurgence
A behavioral effect associated with extinction in which the behavior suddenly begins to occur after its frequency has decreased to its pre-reinforcement level or stopped entirely.
Spontaneous Recovery
A set of stimuli that share a common relationship. All stimuli in this type of class evoke the same operant behavior, or elicit the same respondent behavior
Antecedent stimulus class
Antecedent stimuli that evoke the same response but do not resemble each other in physical form or share a relational aspect
Arbitrary stimulus class
