Cranial nerve 7 (facial nerve) is compressed at the temporal bone pathway by edema produced by an unknown cause. Inability to frown or wrinkle the forehead, obvious inability to close eyelid, dimished corneal reflex, no hemiplegia, no other cranial nerve paralysis. Deviation of the mouth, no coma, no increased blood pressure, no aphasia, pain around the mastoid process.
Bell’s Palsy (Peripheral Paralysis)
Injury of cerebral hemisphere or brain stem caused by cerebrovascular diseases, intracranial tumors, head injuries, brain infections. Normal expressions. Slight inability to close the eyelid. Normal corneal reflex, hemiplegia is often, other cranial nerve paralysis occurs often. Deviation of the mouth. Maybe coma, maybe increased blood pressure, aphasia and slurred speech, no pain around the mastoid process.
Central Paralysis (Bell’s Palsy)
