Extensor retinaculam and long extensor tendon Flashcards
Where does the extensor endows cross into hand?
at the wrist
What covers the extensor tendons?
extensor retinaculum
What is the extensor retinaculum?
thickened band band of dorsal ante brachial fascia that holds the tendons down so they can perform their function
What are the attachments for the extensor retinaculum?
lateral - radius
medial - triquetral/pisiform
What are the compartments of the retinaculm medially?
thumb adductor and extensor carpi radialis MM long thumb extensor common digital tendons EDM ulnar carpal extensor
How is the dorsal artery arch formed?
radial artery from snuff box gives a branch that goes to the back of the wrist distal to the joint
arches over wrist to connect with a small branch of the ulnar artery
What does the dorsal artery arch supply?
supplies local tissues
also yield metacarpal arteries which connect to the common palmar arches
What does the superficial radial nerve supply innervation to?
cutaneous innervation to lateral dorsal part of hand, thumb digit 2 and the lateral half of digit 3
Where does the ulnar nerve supply innervation in the hand?
small dorsal cutaneous branch to the medial part of dorsal hand, medial half of digit 3 and digit 4 and 5 dorsally
What innervates the cutaneous skin of the fingertips?
nerves on the anterior surface of the digits
What is the course of the radial nerve?
emerges anterior laterally at the elbow in the grove between the brachialis and brachialradialis
gives branches to brachialradialis and and extensor carpi radialis longus & brevis
splits into superficial & deep radial
Where does the deep radial nerve course?
penetrates the supinator becoming the posterior interosseus supplying all extensor muscles
Where does the superficial radial nerve course?
superficial all cutaneous and follows deep too brachialraddialis and emerges over the snuff box
supplies dorsal lateral hand
