Different baptism: PROCESS
Adult:
Sponsor presents candidate who makes testimony then they are submersed fully in baptismal pool and made a member of the church
Child:
Priest makes a sign of the cross to show child belongs to Christ, evil and sin rejected, water made holy and sprinkled - oil, gift of Holy Spirit - given candle - sign of death and resurrection
Baptisms - meaning
Baptist- no sacraments. Symbols like candle not necessary. Christians should read Jesus’ instruction directly and copy it. Not born with OG sin
Roman Catholic
Baptism should be followed by education (catechism) then confirmed.
Necessary for evil and sin to be rejected
Pros and cons of paedo baptism
Pros
- sacrament is defined as grace of god - can be given to everyone
- we can never fully understand God
- remedies original sin
- begins with Christian lives
- acts tells of families baptised together
“unless one is born of the Holy Spirit, they cannot enter the kingdom of God’
‘Let the children come to me and do not hinder them’
Baptism/God is a mystery anyway!
CONS
- acts does not specify kids
- ordinance: make disciples THEN baptise
- what about Jesus’ example himself?
- baby already ready of Christian community
- og sin doesn’t matter

Roman Catholic vs baptism communion
Holy Spirit is called (epicelsis), raising above head, genuflection, bread becomes Jesus, then broken (fraction) stored in tabernacle
Baptism - do this to remember me (instruction) done by anyone in the congregation usually a minister .
