- parenting: emphasize & discuss behavior ‘u did a bad thing’
- culture: feel sorry and feel like u shouldn’t have done it
shame: thinking u’ve done wrong & feeling exposed/consious about it, focus is on self (who u are) desire to withdraw from social interaction
parenting: emphasize badness of child ‘ ur a bad boy’
culture: feel lousy about myself
dev of emotional understanding
