What is the translation of SHAHADA?

Why is Shahada important for Muslims? (belief, teachings)
Attests to the believers commitment the worship of one god and to a pure ideal of monotheism
Commits the Muslim to undivided allegiance to God’s commandments
To confess this statement sincerely is to submit to all teachings of Islam.
A person becomes Muslim when they sincerely profess this statement in front of a witness.

What is the process of salat?
Salat begins with the statement of intent (Niyyat) and is structured according to the rak’ah/rak’at (plural) movements/words prescribed for prayer which shows increasing levels of submission to God.

A Muslim prays by facing Mecca and the Ka’aba.
Before prayer, a Muslim washes themselves (wudu): Hands, feet, face, arm, wiping hair in a prescribed manner - be clean to commune with Allah.

What is Zakat?
Zakat is set at a rate of 2.5% of a Muslim’s annual savings or of the monies/possessions of those who had more than enough to meet their basic needs - different for different Muslim communities.
Why is alms given? What is a quote from the Sura?
Alms are given to meet the needs of the faithful such as supporting widows, orphans and the poor.
“…and be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity. And whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah, for Allah sees well all that you do” (Sura 2:110).
What does Zakat do to the worshipper in terms of wealth?
Zakat detaches the worshipper from the pangs of absolute attachment and ownership of wealth towards a more spiritually-healthy state.
This allows humans to see wealth as a form of sacred trust from God.
What does Zakat do to the worshipper in terms of personality?
This results in a worshipper learning not to be selfish (spiritual transformation) and becomes compassionate towards other fellow human beings, especially when fasting. It checks one’s greed. A less greedy person works more sensibly and has a balanced life.
